A Masterpiece Byzantine 14K Gold Ring with Garnet Ibexes Intaglio
$7,500
Byzantium, ca. 5th to 7th century CE. This 14K gold ring displays superb artistry and technique in addition to rich iconography. The goldwork on the shank and raised bezel is elaborately decorated with intertwining floral tendrils and curvilinear patterns – and the oval garnet intaglio of ruby red hues features a pair of twin ibexes sitting with their front legs toward one another but their heads turned 180 degrees so as to face away from one another. An outstanding example of wearable art from Byzantium!
